monumentalmovement

Trying to think about how to explain the movement in the 'plane' pieces - see sequence. Managed to get to 4D model shop in Aldgate to buy more aluminium tube to create ‘line’ pieces - working with the multi-faceted, multi-format structure is challenging – it is very flexible – possibly this work made of lines is too flexible, lacking a recognisable form at any point in its flow of movements, although they are intriguing pieces.

I also like the idea of thinking about these pieces as monumental.....no reason....hence the ‘miniature’ people.

linevplane

a busy morning of making - looking at the possible translation of the flat model made of planes into a 'wire frame' version - unsure about the value of this or if it will lead to anything - but its a new departure for me - line v plane. thinking about tension within the pieces and am exploring the properties of elastic in these pieces.

foldingfilms

looking at ways to discover and then communicate how the folded pieces function in the hand - short films appear to be the answer at the moment. these are a series of pieces from my 'folded paper archive' which best explore some of the language created for this project.

openingnightteamsannounced

monday night saw the launch of parallel practices - http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/about/press/ed-vaizey-mp-launches-innovation-programme-and-announces-parallel-practices it sounded like an interesting night - 'Last night Ed Vaizey, Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy, officially launched the Crafts Council's new innovation programme and announced the four teams selected for the Parallel Practices residencies'. i like the idea of being part of a team.........  http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/articles/parallel-practices/ - i’ve been looking at my archive of folds seeking out what might be relevant within this project and thinking about how to develop them.

textualparadigm

Here’s an initial diagram of the textual paradigm I'm working within and a link to Thrish’s web site – he lays out with more detail and clarity the context for the project http://www.thrish.org/squeeze-fold-bend-and-expand-structural-memory

meeting one

The first official meeting with the Crafts Council and team squeeze fold bend and expand! The launch of the project is on Monday – our meeting was all about the paperwork, contracts and trying to convey the wonderful awesomeness back to them of the project they have created. A pre meeting was a nice opportunity to congratulate ourselves on getting the project and the post meeting set out my life over the next 3 months – filling the diary with potential - an interesting experience - always a mixture of excitement and yet a little daunting, in a good way.
